Mr Catchpole, who has served in several previous roles for the Institution said ‘This is a huge honour – this year, we are celebrating our 125th Anniversary and the challenges we face have never been greater. The changes to the industry arising from new safety legislation following the Grenfell Tower fire and the net zero carbon agenda, places all construction professionals front and centre. Everybody now simply must step up to the plate and play their part.

Ipswich roots

Mr Catchpole left East Bergholt High School at 16, to join Johns Slater and Haward as a trainee mechanical engineer and attended Colchester Institute for his Ordinary National Certificate (ONC).

East Anglian opportunities

The role of the President is to act as a figurehead, spokesperson and a leader on behalf on the Institution and its members. It involves providing guidance and direction to the Board and the CEO on strategic and operational matters and demonstrating leadership externally. ‘It is an opportunity to help shape policy at a national level, which may in turn help some of our businesses here in East Anglia’ said Mr Catchpole.

He will take up his position as President formally in May 2023.

Improv in Ipswich

Tuesday nights are busy at 4YP and on swinging by the Lower Brook Street building we found  the place to be buzzing with positivity. The vibrant artwork in the entrance hall is enough to cheer up anyone coming in on a wet, wintry night.  Greeted by Young People’s Worker, Lily,  it was great for Rebecca our PR person to meet the Girls’ Group and hear that every young woman first came to 4YP either on their own or with a friend and has formed new friendships through the weekly meets.

A 14-19 Drama group run by London-based, Pan Intercultural Arts programme was fuelling on pizza ahead of sharing their ‘evaluation’ piece with parents and carers. The group has been running for several months. The young people were really engaged by actor/director, Zephryn Taitte from ‘Call The Midwife’ whose enthusiasm was clearly infectious.

Johns Slater and Haward is delighted to announce it’s renewed support for 4YP, making it our Charity of the Year for 2022.
