Suffolk Police HQ, Martlesham Heath – Firing Range

Martello Tower

Back to Commissions Page

Suffolk Police Headquarters is situated in a forested site to the East of Ipswich.

The firing range dates back to the early 1970’s and had an existing air system comprised of an air-handling unit providing tempered fresh air to a small part of the range. This was supplemented by an additional fresh air supply, which was not heated.

JSH installed a new air-handling unit incorporating a thermal wheel to provide comfort conditions to all of the range. The requirement was to increase the supply air temperature, thereby eliminating the need for an upgraded heating supply. A design solution incorporating a thermal wheel was selected to maximise heat recovery and enable the existing heating supply to serve the increased usage. The unit was installed externally to the west of the range and computer based controls, a 3-port valve for the heater battery, pre-filters and the heat recovery wheel were all supplied with the unit. In addition a low-pressure duct system was designed to distribute the air.
