Commissioned by Chelmsford Borough Council the building incorporates a ground source heat pump for the provision of space heating and hot water, which is supplemented by a solar thermal panel.

In addition a 15kW wind turbine makes use of the site's topography to generate electricity to both supply the Centre and export to the grid.
