The concept of a Technology Centre came about to answer a high demand for quality business space initially from local business entrepreneurs and then, due to its desirable location, enterprises wishing to relocate from other parts of the country. The initial Brief was to provide a new, purpose built facility of 1,700m² comprising office accommodation, workshops and design suites to let to other similar firms. Extensive use is made of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) within the facility and techniques both with respect to modelling and design. Johns Slater and Haward were responsible for designing and overseeing the installation of the Mechanical and Electrical Services works, which included the Space Heating, Ventilation, Cooling, Hot and Cold Water Services, Electrical Distribution, Electrical Power, Lighting, Emergency Lighting, Fire Alarm and Detection systems, Security system, Telephone and Data/IT systems. The Mechanical Services design solution for the Project included a high efficiency gas fired boiler serving radiator circuits to Units 1-6, Reception/Foyer/Cafeteria, 1st Floor Units 8-14 and the Toiler Areas. Comfort Cooling was provided to the Presentation Theatre, Meeting Rooms 1 and 2 and the Clean Electrical Assembly. Ventilation was incorporated within the Toilet/Kitchen Areas, Workshops, Spraybooth Casting and Reprographics The Electrical Services design included IP65 rated fluorescent lighting to the Workshops and a 3-phase distribution via steel trunking at dado height. Amplification for hearing aids was provided in the Reception Area, Theatre and Meeting Rooms and external floodlighting from the side of the building was incorporated to illuminate the yard with security lighting to the rear of the building and canopy lighting/columns to the parking/pedestrian accesses |
